KETRACO signed project agreements on 15 December 2025 with an Africa50–POWERGRID consortium for a USD 311 million (KES 40.4 billion) independent power transmission PPP comprising the Lessos–Loosuk and Kibos–Kakamega–Musaga transmission lines and associated substations. A consortium project company is to finance, build, operate and maintain the assets under an availability-payment concession capped at 30 years before handback to KETRACO. Project agreements signed is not evidence of financial close: financing completion and construction commencement remain unverified by the reviewed official sources.

Development of two privately financed high-voltage electricity transmission corridors and associated substations under a PPP capped at 30 years before handback to KETRACO: the approximately 180 km, 400 kV double-circuit Lessos–Loosuk line and the approximately 72 km, 220 kV Kibos–Kakamega–Musaga line, including new and upgraded substations and associated grid infrastructure.
