GCC Railway — Kuwait Segment

KuwaitRail Infrastructure, Cross-Border InfrastructureReviewed 30 September 2026

Kuwait's segment of the ~2,177km GCC Railway network (Kuwait City to Muscat via Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE), forming the network's northern leg. Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works signed a KD2.5 million (~$8.1 million) design-consultancy contract with Turkey's Proyapi Engineering and Consulting in January 2025, covering study, detailed design, soil testing, route mapping and tender-document preparation for the 111km Al-Shadadiya-to-Al-Nuwaiseeb line, including a major central station at Al-Shadadiya. The Kuwaiti portion is scheduled for completion by 2030, consistent with the wider GCC Railway programme. Kuwait's separate, standalone domestic 4-line metro project was cancelled by the Audit Bureau on fiscal grounds and is not implemented as a record.
