Law & Regulation
Civil Code
Bahrain's general Civil Code, issued 3 May 2001, containing (among its broader general-civil-law content) the current mortgage and pledge provisions governing security over immovables and movables — mortgages only over immovables, and pledges only over ascertained/present movables, not future assets. These provisions, alongside narrower pledge-related provisions in the Commercial Code (Decree-Law 7/1987, not itself a standalone InfraLex record), constitute Bahrain's current, pre-reform security/collateral framework. A new consolidating Secured Transactions Law (Law No. 3/2026) has been enacted but is not yet in force as of this record's last-verified date.
