Law No. 87 of 2015 Issuing the Electricity Law

Egypt's principal statutory framework for the electricity sector, governing electricity generation, transmission, distribution, supply, trading, licensing, tariffs, grid access and consumer protection. The law establishes the regulatory architecture for electricity-market restructuring and greater private-sector participation, including regulated network access and the development of more competitive electricity-market arrangements. It is particularly relevant to private generation and renewable-energy projects because licensing, grid access, network regulation and electricity-market rules directly affect project development and bankability.
